Death of a Sunflower
(Slow Death)
Oil on hardboard (grisaille/gaze), 20x20 inches or 50x50 cm,
May 2023
With so many still suffering from the pandemic, me included,
and the mainstream media ignoring it, I needed to do something and art is about
all I know. Yes, this painting is existential and cathartic but suffering
every hour of every day can get a little dark.
The dying sunflower represents the fact that I can no longer
go out into the sunshine and the red candle signifies the Red Ear Syndrome (or
Erythromelalgia) that I contracted during the pandemic lockdown.
Some process pictures....
